Ontwa Township, Michigan - A tragic incident unfolded in Ontwa Township, Edwardsburg, on the evening of September 22, resulting in the loss of a local resident's life. The Ontwa Township Edwardsburg Police Department has reported that a head-on collision occurred on US-12 near East Shore Drive, claiming the life of 60-year-old James Tevlin, a resident of Edwardsburg.

Preliminary investigations by authorities revealed that the accident transpired when Mr. Tevlin, operating a motorcycle, found himself in the westbound lane of US-12, traveling in the eastbound direction. Simultaneously, a vehicle driven by 24-year-old Jason Root Jr. of Cassopolis swerved into the eastbound lane to avoid the oncoming motorcycle. Tragically, the sequence of events led to both vehicles colliding head-on.

Mr. Tevlin received initial medical attention from the Edwardsburg Ambulance Service at the scene of the accident. South Bend Medflight was summoned to the scene to transport him to a medical facility. Despite the swift response and efforts of emergency responders, Mr. Tevlin succumbed to his injuries during transport.

Notably, authorities have disclosed that Mr. Tevlin was not wearing a helmet at the time of the collision.

The Ontwa Township Edwardsburg Police Department, assisted by the Michigan State Police, Cass County Sheriff’s Office, and Edwardsburg Fire Department, swiftly responded to the incident.
