Published: September 18, 2023 at 4:00 a.m. EDT

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. — A collision at a bustling Grand Rapids intersection has left a motorcyclist in critical condition, prompting an ongoing investigation into the incident.

The incident unfolded at approximately 1:40 a.m. at the intersection of Alpine Avenue NW and Leonard Street NW, The Motorcycle Lawyer has learned.

According to police investigators, a southbound car collided with a motorcyclist at this junction, resulting in severe injuries to the individual operating the motorcycle. Subsequently, the injured motorcyclist was transported to a hospital, where they remain in critical condition.

A spokesperson for the Grand Rapids Police Department stated that the crash is currently under investigation. Preliminary findings suggest that the driver of the car was at fault for the collision and has been taken into custody.

In the aftermath of the incident, the intersection was temporarily closed, causing disruptions for several hours. However, by 4:45 a.m., it had been reopened to traffic.

Authorities are considering the possibility that excessive speed and the influence of drugs or alcohol may have played a role in the tragic crash, further underscoring the need for a comprehensive investigation into the circumstances surrounding this unfortunate event.
