CALUMET TOWNSHIP, Mich. — In the early hours of Wednesday morning, tragedy struck Calumet Township as a 57-year-old Laurium resident lost his life in a motorcycle accident.

The Houghton County Sheriff’s Office reported that the incident occurred around 1:00 a.m. The motorcyclist was traveling north on highway M-26 near Tikkanen Road when he tragically lost control of his bike. First responders arrived swiftly but, sadly, the rider was pronounced dead at the scene.

The efforts of the Houghton County Sheriff’s Office, the Keweenaw County Sheriff’s Office, the Michigan State Police Calumet Post, the Laurium Police Department, Mercy Ambulance, and Superior Service Towing were instrumental in managing the aftermath of the accident.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation, as authorities work to piece together the sequence of events that led to this unfortunate incident.

Calumet Township is located in Michigan's upper penninsula.
